Help A Poorly Cat Today!

The PDSA cares for over 350,000 pet patients some of which have painful and very serious conditions such as heart

disease, asthma, arthritis and diabetes. They aren’t always able to cure a pets condition but they are always able to act

in the best interests of the pet and help them to live healthy and happy lives wherever they can.

Breed – Domestic short haired cat
Gender – Female
Age – 11 years old
Illness – Diabetes

About – Millie

Millie is a cat with double trouble! When she began to eat and drink much more than usual and lose a lot of weight, she

was diagnosed with both diabetes and a rare disorder called pancreatic insufficiency.

If left untreated, she would continue to lose weight, suffer from constant diarrhoea and always feel hungry no matter how

much she eats. Without medication, either of her conditions could prove fatal.

Twice a day Millie has insulin injections and has special enzymes mixed into her food. Not that she seems to mind too

much. ‘All I have to do is tap the top of the table and Millie immediately jumps up, lies down and accepts her

injection,’ says Millie’s owner, Kim.

Breed – Mixed – short hair
Gender – Female
Age – 4 years old
Illness – Asthma

About – Sarah

Poor Sarah has asthma. At only two years old, Sarah’s problems started with a cough and then she began to bring up

phlegm.

Like human sufferers, Sarah’s asthma could be life-threatening if she doesn’t get the medication she needs. And this

friendly feline’s worries don’t stop there. Being asthmatic means Sarah isn’t as active as she should be so her weight

has to be regularly monitored to ensure she doesn’t become obese.

Sarah has a caring owner who closely monitors her weight and makes sure she takes her tablets. But the check-ups and the

medication she needs aren’t cheap. To keep her asthma under control, Sarah needs this treatment indefinitely. PDSA will

quite literally be her lifeline.

Breed – Cat
Gender – Male
Age – 9 years old
Illness – Diabetes

About – Taz

Taz was diagnosed with diabetes last year, and is now a regular visitor to Gateshead PDSA PetAid hospital. Recalling the

start of his illness, Sandra says: When Taz started to vomit, I thought he just had a tummy bug, but then he started

drinking far more water than usual. I was very worried so took him to PDSA where he was diagnosed with

diabetes.

Taz needs insulin injections twice a day and regular set meals to maintain his blood sugar levels. Sandra would also need

to bring him into the PetAid hospital every four to six weeks for blood tests to monitor his condition.

PDSA vets are keeping a close eye on Tazs condition to make sure his medication is properly balanced.
